Robyn Mathieson NewmarketRobyn Mathieson opened her third retail store, in Newmarket, Auckland, last Thursday to much fanfare. (Mathieson currently has stores in Ponsonby and Wellington and also is sold at 24 stockists nationwide.)
   The Newmarket store, located at 19b Osborne Street, was designed in collaboration with renowned Wellington architect Scott Gordon. Gordon’s designs for the store, which is a contemporary take on retro styling, use sleek modern lines injected with exposed concreted and pops of colours—a complement to Mathieson’s very own sleek and modern designs.
   The new shop is currently stocking Mathieson’s new spring–summer 2010–11 range entitled I’d Rather Be. It is a reminder of our bygone childhood memories in a grown-up world. With names of garments such as ‘I’d Rather Be … Doing the Loop Dee Loop’, and ‘… Left with the Icing Bowl’, the collection is a great way to bring those memories flooding back.
   The collection, as always, is strong on prints, vivid bright colours and wonderful textures. Floaty silk dresses mix with tailored jackets and knitted cardigans to give that unique Robyn Mathieson signature.
